I can eat! I can eat!
For those of you who have been following my site - I did not have to go to the Children's Clinic in Graz, Austria to do the programme. We tried the netcoaching again in the comforts of our own home and I successfully came off all my tube feeds on 7 July 2010.
The date today is 30 September 2010. It's been 85 days since my last tube feed. Wow!
My weight has been stable. I lost a bit (200grams or so) but then I managed to gain it again. I am hovering around the 9kg mark which is pretty skinny for normal people but quite okay for me. Strangers often ask if my younger sister and I are twins. She weighs at least 1kg more than me. But that's okay - I am taller than her.
I am happy. I can eat! Each day I try a little harder and manage to get more food into my tummy instead of just on the floor. I am detemined to grow big and strong. My mom and Dad say I can then go to school, do ballet, swimming lessons and have play dates. It feels so good to be 'more normal' and live a more normal life. I am free and definately have less discomfort. I enjoy tasting different flavours but strangely I am still not that keen on the sweet stuff. Eggs are definately on the top of my list.
Instead of visiting Graz we went on a European adventure. Our itinerary was: London, Venice (where we boarder our cruise ship - The Splendour of the Seas). Dubrovnovik, Kusadasi, Santorini, Corfu, back to Venice and Chichester(South England). In London we spent time with our great friends and went to Hamleys. I got a beautiful Hello Kitty wallet but I accidently threw it overboard somewhere between Venice and Dubrovnovik. I kept asking my dad to go back and get it but they told me it was about 300m underwater, swimming with the fish. I met Darren, the ship's chef onboard and he liked me so he made me fried eggs all day long. I started to swallow more - maybe thanks to Darren. He also showed me how to juggle lemons and he carved dragons out of pumpkins. Pretty cool! On the ship, we swam alot and Berlynn went to kids club (I am too young for this). I loved the little cities in Europe. I swaggered and skipped and smiled down all the quaint cobblestone streets of Dubrovnovik, Kusudasi, Santorini, Corfu and Venice. I went to the beach in Turkey, swam in the sea and ate Pide (Turkish pizza). We ate pizza in Venice (my dad's pizza is still better though!) and we had some octopus, tzatziki and pita on my mom's birthday in Santorini. I did not sleep all that well on the trip so my mom is exhausted. I still wake up for my bottle about 3 to 4 times a night. In Chichester I got to meet my uncle Lloyd and Carol and my cousins Jonty and Greg. We went for a short, chilly walk on the English beach and stayed at my uncle's hotel, Crouchers. The trip was a very special one. It was a bit of a celebration of how far I have come in 2.5 years and it was great to be with my mom and dad and 2 sisters and to be able to just have fun.
So the professor was right. She said I needed time with solid food so I was given time and patience. And I would say that around October was when I really started to eat and swallow so much more. And it's been wonderful ever since. The peg has to stay in until you have back to the weight that you were when you started the programme. It's like a just incase so we will keep it in for now. I continue to gain weight but a bit slower than some 'normal' kids and I am tiny. But you know what they say "Dynamite comes in small packages!"
We removed the peg on the 3rd of December 2010. Our Doc wanted to keep it in for a little longer but it as so lose and about to fall out so my mom decided to help it fall out. Finally, I am free! We put a bit of gauze over the hole and a plaster and left it to close by itself. I was so proud that I kept pulling my shirt up and showing everyone. And then on the 17th December 2010 my mom had another baby - a girl, Milan Ash Williams. We are now 4 girls! Berlynn, Me (Camden), Jada and Milan. Lucky daddy!
2010 has been a good year - 2010 World Cup Soccer! My mom and dad have been married for 10 years! My baby sister was born healthy! My tube was removed and I can eat! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
I will be back with lots of news and updates on my 1 year anniversary - without tube feeds 07/07/2011.
